From time to time, when tensions are high or I can sense a pervading uneasy energy circling me in some way, I do a little meditative exercise. Usually, it is a visualization or relaxation ritual--something easy to refocus my mind. It is similar to Sar's and the one she did with the clouds, but a little different.
So, as a means to, perhaps, prepare you for the unforeseen stressful events in your own life, this week's blog will have you contemplating your "happy place" either real or metaphorical or imaginary. Please answer the following questions:
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
Relax while you're writing this--please don't start at 11:45 on Thursday night and rush forward trying to get it in under the wire--that would really defeat the purpose.
Remember to breathe...
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteI like to go to the future. I think of how happy I will be when all of my hard work pays off, and I am living in a nice home with a loving family of my own. I think of when I will have a steady job that I will love. When I am sad or angry or on the verge of a meltdown, I think about myself 15 years from now. I picture myself walking in my house after work and being greeting by my kids and husband in a way that makes me love coming home. I always think that my problems now will be irrelevant when I am older physically in my happy place.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
I use to live in Ventnor so of course my childhood was full of beaches, sunny days and ice cream. There is one specific ice cream shop though that I still remember. It is still there, and I often visit it. It is right after the bridge the leads into Ventnor, and I use to ride my bike there with my mom multiple times a week. I would get my own ice cream, but I would always take some of hers because I could never decide between vanilla or chocolate ice cream. A swirl was out of the question. I wanted both flavors in separate cones. I don’t really know what was so special about eating ice cream at the same place multiple times a week, but whatever it was, it stuck with me.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I usually shower around 6 p.m. everyday, and that is when and where I feel my absolute best. I feel like my showers conclude my day, and after I shower I don’t really have much to worry about. I know as soon as I get out of the shower I will put my pj’s on, and that is something I look forward to every single day. When the pj’s are on, I know I am done for the day. No more school, work, going out or working out.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The sound of wood burning. I love the candles that have the wooden wicks so I hear that crackle-like noise that the wood makes while it is burning. I love this sound because it reminds me of Christmas time, and that is my favorite time of the year.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
White, light gray and baby blue. White linen makes me think of cleanliness, and I am a clean freak so that helps sooth me. Light gray and baby blue kind of go together. My comforter is gray, and my walls are baby blue. My room is cozy to me, and those colors are the main colors of my room.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
Whenever the sun sets. I love it when the light fades slowly and the darkness takes over the sky. I am usually at home when it is night time, so it puts me at ease knowing I have a warm and cozy place to sleep. I love curling up in my bed with my little dog while it is pitch black. I can’t sleep with lights on, so when the night time comes around I automatically get tired because of the darkness.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
Whenever I am feeling stressed or anxious, I usually sleep. Sleeping allows me to escape from reality for a few hours. Rather than fixing me being stressed by being productive, I hide in my room, trying to forget about it. Taking a nap is part of my daily schedule, and without it I am a monster. As you can probably tell, I am someone who loves making an effort to solve my problems :).
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
When I was younger, I had twin best friends. Alexa and I would always go over their house and spend the entire day swimming in their pool. Our moms would order a ton of pizza and we would pig out on fruit and chips. We would often sneak into the garage refrigerator and raid the stack of different ice creams, even after being told to only grab one. I remember feeling like such badasses, the fact that we went against our parents demands and had 2 firecracker popsicles instead of just 1. This happened so often, and it was the same routine every time, but I still look back on it to this day. This memory has stuck with me as we grew older and grew apart. My childhood scrapbooks has tons of pictures of me at their house, swimming in my disney one-pieces with the obnoxious goggles that cover your nose, suctioned to my head. Everything was so simple then. The only thing we needed in order to have fun was each other, chips on top of pizza, and some extra popsicles that no one ever knew about.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I feel my absolute best when I am tan, however, I don't necessarily have a specific place where I feel my best. I'm not sure what makes dark skin so special, but something about it makes my confidence increase much higher. I believe that being tan makes my skin look better and more clear. Clothes look much better against my body when it is dark, and so for those reasons, being tan is when I feel my absolute best.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
By far, the most soothing sound is the ocean. Maybe it's because ever since I was a baby, the only way I can fall asleep is by listening to white noise on a sound machine, but the ocean relaxes me like no other. The crashing of the waves, to the gentle splashes, makes this sound something that always brings me to peace.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
The color gray definitely makes me feel some type of way. Maybe because it is associated with rain and sogginess. Whenever there is a gray sky, all I want to do is crawl into bed and sleep for hours. The grayness makes me feel like a piece of me is missing. It makes me feel like the world as a whole is sad, which makes me sad. However, on the other side, the color green-blue makes me happy. I don't typically look at blue as a color that represents sadness. Blue has always been my favorite color, so because of that I associate it with happiness. My room is bluish-greenish, so everytime I hide in my room I am surrounded by the beautiful color. Blue-green reminds me of the beach, so maybe that's where my feeling of happiness comes from.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
My favorite part of the day is at night, around 9:00 pm. At this time, I lay in my mom’s bed with her and watch our favorite TV shows, like the Bachelor or One Tree Hill. My dog lays on the bed with us. By this time, my homework is done, I am in comfy clothes, and I am on the verge of sleeping. We reflect on our day and talk about random things that make us smile. I reflect on how grateful I am to have a bed and a family to lay in/with. This peaceful time is something that I look forward to every night. It is the perfect way to end a stressful day.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDelete-I don't have a particular place, but if you take dreams as a answer than my dreams would be a escape. I'm one of those people who try to sleep away their problems. It doesn't always help, but I like falling asleep and having dreams about positive stuff because it makes me forget about all my stress because for a few hours I'm not in the real world. I like having dreams where I'm successful in life with a nice family. My dreams motivate me to work for my future goals & forget about my current problems because for a moment my current problems are gone.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
-My favorite childhood memory would have to be when I lived in Absecon. That was the home where I grew up until the 4th grade when I had to move.I loved how I can go out the back and walk to my bestfriends house in 5 mins. I had so many friends compared to right now because when you're a kid, nobody has bad intentions and there's no real way you can hurt a child. I loved going to my bestfriends house almost everyday afterschool because she was so close and then I'd run back home quickly.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
-I honestly feel the best when I'm either with Aja or my boyfriend because when I'm with them I'm myself & instead of me feeling weird for acting a certain way, it's always funny because our levels of weirdness match. I tell both of them almost everything from what I remember. Aja is probably one bestfriends who probably knows stuff about me I've never told any of my previous "bestfriends." I treat both Aja and my boyfriend like human diaries because they both listen even though my boyfriend loves to pretend he doesn't. Aja is like a damn therapist.. no joke. She has the best advice that's almost always right. She'll be straight up and be like "you're overreacting" "you're extra" "you're being petty." I never take it to the heart though because when I think about it, I'll be like damn she's right. My boyfriend contributes to my dreams about my future because I can imagine myself with him, of course I know it might not happen, but the thought comforts me because one day it can happen.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
-I don't have a soothing sound. I like silence. The ocean is what most people seem to say and it doesn't work on me just like meditating. I'm kind of mad none of those techniques work because I wish I could feel relaxed for a few minutes when I'm awake, but nope not possible with me.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
- The blue-ish gray affects my mood the most. It's the color that occurs when it's about to rain or after it rains, hopefully you can imagine what I'm talking about. I love the rain and I love sleeping when it rains. For some strange reason I still get fascinated by the rain. At home, I'll open my front door and just watch the rain if I'm not tired and let a few drops drip on my feet. I don't as much anymore, but I used to just go stand in the rain in like a pair of shorts and a baggy shirt. The color either makes me tired or just super happy and amused. I love how after it rains, all the plants are just super dark green and my backyard looks like a mini rainforest.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
ReplyDelete- I feel the most comfort at night when it's around 8:30-9:00pm. I'm usually done my homework at this point, putting my clothes away, finished eating and done fixing my bed so I can sleep. I just lay in bed listening to music. Along with music, I either text & look through social media or I just think about stuff whether it's relationship, future, etc. The difference with my thoughts at night is that they're usually more positive rather than negative.
To escape the pressures of life I can usually be anywhere as long as I have my phone and a working pair of earphones. If I can let music help me escape whatever hardship I’m going through, then within like two songs I’ll get over whatever it is bothering me.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think there is one specific memory that can take the title of my best childhood memory, but when considering it one memory does stick out a little bit more than the others. This memory would have to be when I was 6 years old and The Cheetah Girls 2 came out and premiered on Disney Channel. I was obsessed with anything Raven Symone, from The Cosby Show, to That’s So Raven, to The Cheetah Girls. I was obsessed and I was too excited for the sequel to come out. But unfortunately that night there was like this 6 hour conference that my family had to go to right around the time to movie came on. I was so torn, I begged my mom to let me stay. But to be honest I was dumb because the whole day my mom was baking snacks and stuff, she made Fruity Pebble Rice Crispy treats, and brownies and all this other stuff. Well shortly after dinner that night, everyone started getting ready for the Conference. My mom had this dress set out for me with the shoes and everything, but she had told me that ‘She forgot to pick up my tights from Walmart’. So when her and everyone left she told me that she was coming back to get me. I sat in my dark room so long, like fifteen minutes give or take. And then all I tell me that my mom wasn’t coming back to get me and I argued with her telling her just how sure I was that she was wrong. But then my sisters pulled me into the living room where there was a big fluffy blanket spread out on the floor and all these pillows around it and a snack table with everything my mom made for us. I was so genuinely surprised and happy that I didn’t know how to contain myself. I still tell my friends this story whenever The Cheetah Girls comes into topic, so obviously it was a lasting memory.
I feel my absolute best when I am out with my sisters, whether we’re out at the movies, or going to a nice restaurant whenever I am with them I feel like this is how it’s supposed to be. I love being around both of them individually and sometimes I’d prefer being around one more than the other especially when mood swings kick in, but when we’re all together it’s perfect. We bring out a certain kind of happiness in each other, we turn into these goofy, laughing, triplets despite the age gaps. My sisters make me more outgoing which always makes me happy.
The most soothing sound I can imagine is the sound of smooth R&B, I don’t mean like coffee shop music I mean like Amel Larrieux, India Aire, Jhene Aiko, Eryka Badu, music like that just calms me down. The colors honey yellow and indigo and black affect my mood the most. Honey yellow makes me feel warm, and happy, and colorful, and then indigo makes me feel unique because it’s such a different color and I feel like it should be appreciated with unique style, and then black makes me either feel heavy, fashionable, or depressed, all three of those colors affect my mood heavily.
I feel most at ease when I am in my 1st period Math class because Hersi’s there and I can always express my thoughts with her there and we’ll have little side conversations- even though we shouldn’t- and we’ll just laugh and sometimes argue and that’s always comforting. Because when she ditches me for bio med assemblies and trips or whatever, I have no one to talk to because I don’t associate with that many people, so it’s quite frustrating. I also feel at ease at night, right before I go to sleep after a long, stressful day, and I’m really tired, I like to just relax and drift into a sleep away from the dangers of my thoughts.

ReplyDeleteWhere do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn’t have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteI like to be somewhere that’s far away from home. Vacations like going into another country or state is where I want to be. These types of vacation allow me to get lost and forget about the “pressures” and worries I left behind. I get hook into the places and activities I am about to explore which puts me into a dreamlike situation where everything is perfect and happy. I can be as carefree as I want to be.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
When my brother and I were little, we had to take afternoon naps before we can use the computer or play video games. Like any child, naps were our least favorite. So in order to use our gadgets, we would pretend to be asleep for at least an hour. To do this, I would cover my face with a pillow and peek at the digital clock in front of my bed to keep track of how long have I been “sleeping.” I had to do this carefully because there would be moments when my grandma or aunt would check up on us. When we reach our one-hour mark, I would tap my brother while I would rub my eyes as much as I can so that I would look like I did take a nap. We would then decide which one of us would go out of the bedroom first so that it wouldn’t look so suspicious that we didn’t take a nap. When we get out of the room, we would squint our eyes and mess our hair a bit and try to talk in our morning voice.
Another one of my best childhood memories is when I found out that Santa is not real (it’s not the best but it’s something I would never forget). When the holidays arrive, my cousins, my brother, and I would hang our christmas stockings on the tree at the living room. During the holidays, we would all sleep with my grandma in her room. Her room’s door had a tiny hole in the middle where I could see the living room AND the tree. Well one Christmas morning, my aunt woke up early and so did I without her knowing. She quietly left the room as I gently got out of bed. I don’t know what got into me, but I looked through the hole on the door and saw my aunt putting gifts into our stockings. The scene stunned and upset me that I wished I just didn’t look through the hole on the door. I was only seven years old for god's sake!
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I don’t lay on my bed without getting ready for bed so I feel my absolute best right after my night showers. I like how my skin looks and feels. I like my hair’s soft and damp texture. I love the refreshing and relaxing atmosphere that comes with it. I like knowing that I am fresh and clean. Being in my pj’s means I can lay down on my bed, hangout in my room with the music on, or watch movies in my living room comfortably.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The “pop” we hear when the tennis racket makes good contact with the ball. Tennis practices/matches are usually quiet and tranquil so hearing that “pop” not only gives me a satisfying sound but also a calming and carefree feeling.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Pastel colors and white. The pastel colors takes most of the tensions away from me. They lift my spirits up because of how bright a room can be with them painted on every wall. White because, like Jess said, it represents cleanliness and I am a clean freak as well.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
I feel the most at ease when everyone is finally home. I worry a lot, so knowing that my parents and my little brother are home safely feels great.
Also I feel most at ease when during the summer mornings (7-9ish) because that’s when I usually like to come down to the living room with all the blinds in the house open to absorb the morning sun. I’d lie down on the couch and daydream before everyone else wakes up and get ready for the day.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteMy room at my mom’s house. For as long as I can remember I’ve lived in my room. My room is the safest place for me to be in in the entire world. I love my room very much and there are many features that I love specifically. I love the three dream catchers (two of which I made) hanging over off my one shelf, I love that shelf that holds some of my favorite things, and the one right next to it that holds all my elephant paraphernalia, I love the pictures of me and my friends and family all over the wall next to my bed, I love my corkboard/whiteboard that has souvenirs from some of my favorite memories ever pushpin-ed into it and the whiteboard that all of my closest friends signed for ‘when they are famous’, I love all of my drawings that are covering my white wall across from my bed because they all contain feelings that I am able to relate to a lot, and I love my polaroids hanging above my bed and on my closet door, and lastly I love my Melanie Martinez and two Twenty One Pilots records amongst the many others that sit under my record player. I live my life in that room and my favorite thing is to see people walk into my room and just look around, because it allows them to learn more about me and see more of how I live my life. My room is my safe haven and my biggest fear is not having it in college, but it’s a fear I have to get over. This is the place I go to escape everything.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
I don’t remember much from my childhood but there is one time that I will never forget and I‘m not sure why. I’m going to write about two - memories though because they each give me these indescribable feelings. The first one is when I was little and my mom was outside doing yardwork. She had been out there all day and it was hot out. It started to get a little late and I felt bad because she was still outside working so I wanted to make her something to eat. Of course I was little and didn’t really know how to actually make food but I did know how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. At the time I was weak, as I still am now, so I ran outside and down the porch steps up to my mom holding a jar of peanut butter and asked her to open it for me. This memory always stayed with my mom too and I later learned that in her mind she felt super guilty because it was getting late and she hadn’t fed me yet. She thought I was making it for myself. I ran back inside and made the sandwich and a glass of iced tea for her and brought it out for her to eat. I remember how happy and appreciative she was and it made me happy because it was the first time I could give something back to her for all the stuff she always gave me.
The second memory is one I wrote about before and it has to do with my sister. We were swimming outside one day and the water was refreshingly cool. My sister got out and went inside and came back out with two glasses of ‘icy cold water’ (a term I used constantly as a little girl) and a plate of nachos. For some reason that day those two things made me so extremely happy and I got out of the pool and wrapped myself tight in a towel while her and I ate in happy silence. After I went inside, got changed into my super cozy pajamas, sprayed my hair with detangling spray, and brushed it out. I will never forget this memory because every time I get into a pool, when the water hits my belly button I get the exact feeling I felt on that day. It sucks because it makes me want to get into pajamas and curl up like a little kid again but it’s amazing because it is such a content, naive, and happy feeling.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
DeleteI feel my absolute best whenever I’m at a concert or doing anything with my cousins, grandparents and family. I love music as you most likely know already and I love concerts. I don’t go to concerts just to spend money and listen to loud music I go to concerts because they give me this type of feeling. There are so many great parts to a concert, getting ready, waiting in line, watching the sunset if it’s outside, being surrounded by thousands of people with common interests, and most importantly the music. Concerts connect me with the people I bring to them. There is a point where what you look like doesn’t matter, your horrible singing along doesn’t matter and nothing matters except the music. Everyone in that space feels the same way but in different ways. Concerts are more than just spending money and driving places, they are memories that you can recall whenever you want by listening to a song or hanging out with the same people you went with, and they are moments in time that are each so unique and I will never forget.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
I have no idea why but I will never get over the sound of hole punchers cutting paper nice and smoothly.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Yellow. I constantly say this but yellow inspires me. When I wear my yellow converse I feel creative and excited like I can take on anything. Yellow makes me happy because it is bright and stands out. Other than just yellow, primary colors also make me feel inspired and naive. Plain red and blue and yellow are my favorites because they are just so classic.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
I would say laying in my bed at night but I feel like that doesn’t really count so I am going to have to say when I’m in the media studio. I feel so comfortable in the media studio because nothing I do matters. If I don’t look good it’s okay because no one in there cares, if I’m tired and need sleep I can sleep, if I want to play music on the speakers I can and it doesn’t matter. In the media studio no idea that I have is ever crazy, but I think what is the most important is that no one in there thinks I’m weird. People constantly tell me I’m weird and they don’t realize it but it hurts me. Being different is a compliment, but being weird makes it seem like I’m different in a bad way that no one likes. I remember being in the studio and talking about all the very strange stuff I do in my sleep and not one person called me weird, they were laughing with me. The media studio is where I get to create stuff, wherever, however, and whenever I want. It’s a creative space that makes me feel comfortable at all times. It is the one thing in high school that has stayed a constant and has grown with me. For those reasons and many others, I feel most at ease whenever I’m in the media studio.

ReplyDeleteWhere do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteWhen I am stressed, I go to my room, drop everything I’m doing, crawl into my bed, pull up my covers, and say “Goodnight”. I then dream for a few hours and wake up feeling refreshed before having to do homework before school starts in the next 8 hours.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
I would try to think of something, but honestly, my memory of my childhood is fogged up by a traumatic experience that happened when I was in kindergarten. I can’t seem to remember anything about my childhood that stands out since I stayed home and hung out with my siblings most of the time. Well, I guess I did go on a cruise with my family when I was around 7 years old, but I don’t remember much from it besides the fact that I was the only one who didn’t get seasick while on the ship.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I feel my absolute best when I am hanging out with my friends or just being near them. When I am with my friends, I don’t have to care about my image with how I act, what I say and how stupid I may sound from time to time. It might sound like I am always putting up a front when I’m not with my friends, but that’s not true at all because the quiet me is a part of the real me too. I just feel more confident and outgoing when I have people I feel close with by my side.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The most soothing sound is when I am not rushing to my bus stop and am actually leisurely walking towards the destination. That’s because when I take my time, I get to hear the birds chirp and I get to take in the fresh morning air as much as I want without having profanities running across my head (since I am late for the bus majority of the time). I really like it when there is no other sounds but the birds chirping and tweeting away. It’s very calming and peaceful.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Since I have trypophobia, I try to steer away from a combination of opposite colors. There are certain patterns and colors I must stay away from, especially when they are a cluster of dots. Having opposites of colors, like red and blue or black and white, can make me feel heated up in the cheeks and sometimes even woozy in the head. But soft-toned colors such as ivory and beige makes me feel the most relaxed.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
I am a night-time person. I do all my homework at night, read books at night, watch my Asian dramas at night, and sleep in the morning or afternoon. I would call myself a vampire, but I’m not afraid of sunlight, so that kind of sucks...haha, see what I did there? Anyway, when the moon is out with the stars and everything is dead silent, I feel the most at ease. There is just that something about hearing only the crickets cricket or seeing the moon shine along with the stars that make me smile and let out a big whopping sigh of relief. Not only that, but seeing the glorious display in front of me reminds me about last year when I stargazed with my grandmother when Jupiter and Venus was visible. That’s one memory I would always cherish. It is moments like those that I feel like my grandmother and I have a special bond with each other or something. It warms me up on the inside.
To escape the pressures of my life, I like to go to the beach. The beach is the most calming place for me because it encourages me to relax and block out all noise except for the crash of the waves. I love sticking my feet in the sand, I love hearing the sound of the waves, and I love feeling the heat that the sun puts on my back. I’ve been to a few countries where I spent a whole week laying on a beach and that was by far the best therapy I’ve ever had in regards to escaping my reality and the pressures that my reality brings me. The beach sends me into a different world that rids me of all the worries and pressures that consume me.
ReplyDeleteMy best childhood memory would be when I was about 2 or 3 years old, on Christmas Eve in my old house. Taylor and I were running around our house in our pink diva-like bathrobes with boxes and boxes of Nilla Wafers in our possession (our favorite snack at the time). We kept running in and out of our rooms, leaving a trail of crushed cookies, as they continued to drop out of our hands, as our parents just sat back and watched us. Taylor eventually knocked over a fake Santa figure that was just chilling in the corner, and I am not over exaggerating when I say that all all hell broke loose. She genuinely believed that she hurt the fake Santa. As she screamed and cried and insisted that my parents pick the Santa up and fix him, my parents enjoyed this memorable experience by not putting the video camera down and continuing to laugh at her. I know I was only 2, so with the help of home videos I am able to re live this moment whenever I want to refresh my memory, but something as simple as this is my favorite childhood memory because it was so real. The Christmas tree was glistening in the back, Christmas music playing, my parents were just absorbing the moment; you can tell through the video that it was such a happy night and I am so grateful they captured it on film the way that they did. So much joy, innocence, love, and youth captured in such a short video. I will never forget that night.
I feel my absolute best at the end of August. At that point I am very tan, I am in my best shape from soccer, and I am so close to embarking on a new school year. Everything at the end of August just feels so fresh and so new. Although I hate the feeling of summer coming to an end, I love the excitement of knowing that a new year is about to start.
I would say that the most soothing sound I can imagine would be white noise, because I have slept with that sound on a sound machine ever since I was a baby, but after some deeper thinking I would say that the most soothing sound I can imagine would have to be either the sound of a bathtub running or the sound of a car driving in silence. The sound of a bathtub running reminds me of cleanliness and freshness, and the fact that it is such a steady sound is what is so soothing. The rhythm of the water flowing from the faucet into the tub is constant, never changing until the knobs are turned. I love listening to the radio when I drive. I mean I’ve never really not listened to it, yanno? When I turn my car on, the radio comes on. But the other night I drove without my radio, and I was amazed at the serenity of such a thing. Driving in the dark, in silence, just listening to the motion of the wheels touching the pavement. It’s so calming.
The color of a sunset affects my mood more than any color. I love sunsets and sunrises because I love being able to watch the day either end or start right before my eyes, but the colors that they bring just make it that much more amazing, sunsets especially. I love the oranges and the pinks and the yellows and the reds that blend together when the sun sets or rises. The beauty of the warm colors creating a work of art on a canvas such as the sky takes my appreciation for sunsets and sunrises to a whole new level. For me, those colors represent new beginnings and happy endings and opportunities and tranquility and happiness.
I feel the most as ease at around 6:00 pm. At this time, school is over, most (if not all) of my homework is done, dinner is cooking, my hair is wet from showering, I’m usually in my pajamas, and I begin to settle down by watching tv or reading this really good book I just started. I love feeling refreshed and that is exactly how this time of the day makes me feel. I can usually hear birds chirping which is cool too. The sun begins to set so although the temperature begins to decrease around this time, the rays of the sun are so strong and blinding and everything is just so comforting at 6:00 pm.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteI would probably go back to the past. If I was trying to escape the pressures of the present, the past would be the most logical choice. You guys know the saying: the older you are, the more responsibilities you have.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
I remember when I was about 4 or 5, and I was living in Egg Harbor Township. It snowed like crazy that year, and my family had decided to go outside to spend some time in the snow. My sister was 2 years old at the time, and it was her first time in the snow. I remember the cold, frosty wind, the sharp chill of the snow down my jacket, and the shortness of breath I had after running around so much. The most memorable part, however, wasn't so memorable for my sister. The snow started to pick up again, so we decided to go back inside. About 5 minutes later, after we had gotten all of our soggy clothes off and started to relax, my mom realized that she accidentally left my sister out in the snow by herself. It was pretty funny for me at the time. And for some reason, I remember being jealous, probably because she had more time out in the snow than I did.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I feel my absolute best when I am with my friends. I feel like I can do anything, and that nothing in the world can stop me or my friends.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
This answer is gonna make me sound like a nerdy nerd, but I don't care. Some people here will understand this reference. So I play this game called League of Legends. The game is a 5v5 PvP game. When you kill another player, the game announces your kill for all to hear, and when you kill all 5 of the other players without dying, the game announces a phrase that all players wish they could hear: "PENTAKILL". Pretty rad.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
There isn't really a color that affects me too much. Sure, blue looks relaxing, and green reminds me of nature, but unless I'm really focusing on the color, they don't really affect me too much. I guess if there is one color that affects me, it would be brown, because that color is so freaking ugly.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
Anytime I'm asleep, I feel my most comfortable. I don't really know how to describe it, but the exact moment you fall asleep is the weirdest, yet most comfortable moment of the day. It feels like you are stuck in limbo, and that, at least to me, feels awesome.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteTo escape from the pressures of my life I like to go to the gym. Working out makes me forget about everything I’ve been stressing about. It literally clears my mind. When I’m feeling down or lost I work out to think about how great my future is going to be. Working out reminds me of how hard I work to be the best I can be. When I think about my hard work and dedication I let go of all the things holding me back with ease. I picture myself being extremely successful without anyone’s help. Also, without all the negative things that is putting pressure into my life. Although it’s painful while doing it, working out makes me happy after and it makes me remember how good my life is.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
My best childhood memory is going to the Disney World. Growing up I have gone to Disney world about twice a year every year. No matter how old I get, Disney will always be a place I must go to every year. Florida itself is an adventurous place that I love to visit. It makes me happy thinking about it. As a child, I always went with family members and one of my favorite cousins. I have the4 best memories that I will never forget. Disney is a place I feel as though every child should experience. It is a great experience, visiting all of the parks. There’s never a dull moment in Disney.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I feel the absolute best after a workout and shower. After doing a hard workout and feeling the soreness of my muscles, I feel extremely good. Knowing, that I did something that made me stronger and better is the best feelings. Of course, after working out I get home and I shower and it’s when I feel the best. I feel my muscles relaxing and it makes me feel stronger and better. Working out will always be when I feel like I’m at my highest point. When I sit on my butt all day I feel lazy and of course at my lowest point.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The most soothing sound is rain. I love the sound of rain, it makes me tired and I like sleeping. Rain helps me sleep better because it keeps me relaxed. Rain makes me feel comfortable depending on what type of day I’m having. I love sitting in the house and relaxing on a rainy day. I don’t enjoy the sound of stormy crazy rain, it scares me. But, soft rain makes me feel relaxed and that’s the best time to take a nap.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Yellow effects my mood the most. It makes me happy. Currently my nails and toes are painted yellow and it reminds of a sunny warm day. It also, makes me think of summer and that thought makes me happy. I love dark colors. I could wear black every day. Usually dark colors ruins people’s mood but it doesn’t effect mine at all. I usually relate colors to seasons. Bright colors make me the happiest.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
I feel the most ease when I’m sleeping. When I am sleep, I don’t have to think about or worry about anything. I am never at ease during the day unless I have nothing to do, but for the most part I am always stressing or worried about something so I can’t answer this question with a specific answer. Therefore, in the middle of the night is when I feel most ease.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
When the pressures of life seem to be to much, I like to go for a run. Running gives you time to think to yourself BY yourself. Its just you experiencing the world as you listen to every breath you take and every step you take. My run can be however long I want for however long I need. Its not that I am running away from my problems. I see it more as me training to face my problems and beat them. Plus its a pretty good workout.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
I don't have a single favorite childhood memory. I have so many. But what I do have my best memories with my brothers. For instance, when a big storm would roll in and it start to get dark out, My brothers and I would turn out every light in the house so that it be complete darkness. After that we'd go and hide somewhere in the darkness of our home. Once we were all split up, we would quietly, like navy seals, try to find each other. As soon as we had a basic idea where the other was, we would beak out our light sabers and duel to he death or cower and run away. Those nights were some of the funniest nights of my life. I always have the best times with my brothers.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I never feel my best anywhere I go. My absolute best is me in 5 years. When i get there my absolute best will be me in 5 years. I will Never reach me best because there is always room to improve. Knowing Ill be better in the future gives me someone to chase and strive to be.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
Probably the rain. Like on a cold rainy day maybe some lightning. Sitting at the window looking out and just listening to the rain.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Probably the color gold. Because usually when I see gold its in the form of a medal which is something pretty significant in the world of track. It Doesn't matter what mood you're in, if you get a gold medal you know your hard work is paying off and you're doing something right. Makes you feel Great.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
There is no specific part of the day that leaves me at ease. Mornings that I can wake up knowing my schedule is free is when I feel at ease. Mornings are so relaxing, the birds are singing, the sun is rising, and no one is up. You are in no rush. You can do what ever you want and go where ever you want. You're stress free.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteIn order to escape the pressures of my life, I choose to distract myself. I have to do something. Actually, I like to watch stuff. I go to Youtube. I watch funny videos (Gameplay, animations, stuff like that). It’s my sanctuary. It helps me forget. I grab a pair of headphones, go somewhere away from my family, and just relax.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
One of my best childhood memories was my best friend D.J.’s birthday party. It’s time for dramatic storytelling! It was 7 years ago, on a warm Friday afternoon. As a 4th grader, I didn’t have any real worries, and I felt free. I was on my way to his house, the orange afternoon sun still high in the sky. I was ready. I had my sleeping bag rolled tight. My bag was packed with all my toiletries, spare clothes, and a birthday card. However, the real beauty lay in my lap: the new Nerf Raider. With a drum capacity of over 70 bullets, I was a real force to be reckoned with. Its beautiful ocean blue plastic clashed pleasantly with the mounds of orange bullets at my disposal. Even though I was about to enter war, I could not help but cracking a smile. With my trusty pistol at my side, I marched confidently up the driveway, into my friends house. I exchanged pleasantries with the family, but in the back of my mind, I was already steeling myself for what was to come. I met all my friends, and we had a grand old time talking and other stuff, but I could not trust any of them, for in a few short hours, they could become my greatest enemies. The only one I could trust was the birthday boy himself, who showed me with glee what he was packing. A beautiful green Vulcan, with automatic firing. I cracked a wide grin, for I knew he had my back. We played the afternoon away (Air Hockey, video games, and other boyish games) until the fated time arrived. The sun hung low, as if to hide from the oncoming mayhem. Everyone geared up. With solemn faces we eyed each other’s weapons. I had teamed up with D.J. and a couple others. We let the other team leave to go scatter around outside the house. We discussed strategy. It was pointless. We went outside, and were almost immediately ambushed. Orange bullets streaked past our faces, whistling as they went by. We scrambled into the backyard, letting loose everything we had. Defiant yells rang through the air as countless heads bobbed and weaved throughout the backyard. My hand steady, and my aim true, I was tearing through the front yard, pursuing one of my former friends. I was having the time of my life. Then my Raider failed me. It jammed! I couldn’t let them see my weakness. I hid next to a wall, hoping to fix my gun. No good, it was too dark. I pulled my pistol out. It was just me and Old Red. A veteran gun, it would not fail me. I heard the enemy creep up on me. I grit my teeth, ready to go out fighting, when the telltale whine of D.J.’s Vulcan tore through the bushes. A sight for sore eyes, the boy, no MAN backed me up and got me out of there and into safety. We were the last. It wouldn’t be long before the enemy would win, but until then I was ready to go in with my friend. However, fate favors the brave, and the war was ended by the trumpets of his mom calling for cake. We all went inside and played games and slept over. I left the next day, in the aftermath of the battle, when the morning sun shone over the dewy green grass.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
DeleteWhenever I succeed, I feel my best. It can happen anywhere, on stage, or in the classroom, it happens whenever I do something right, like say all my lines correctly or get a 100%
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
Angel’s singing, and this one bird that chirps outside my window every morning, it’s really nice. Also there is a certain melody on a violin that makes me want to curl up into a ball.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
White, Blue, Black, Red, Green, Yellow. Ok, in my mind, there is this place. It’s a huge grassy field, with a lone tree atop a hill. The sky is bright blue, with clouds. That hill overlooks a vast yellow sandy desert, and farther in the distance, there is a city with shining lights. The building are black, and rise high into the sky. White, blue, and green represent tranquility and safety. Yellow represents a long journey, and kind of makes me feel weary. Black and red sometimes make me feel uneasy, but that is because of the unknown, and it sometimes makes me feel invigorated.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
Nighttime. Everything fun in my childhood happened at night (more specifically Friday nights). Parties and other events always happened at those times, and those times were always the most fun. It meant I was with people, and something about being with others you like is comforting.
Around my family
ReplyDeleteSitting on my couch with my recycled soda cans as trash cans and cardboard tables, playing with WWE action figures.
When I’m Drunk, my confidence is at an all time high.
The peaceful sound of the humongous waves crashing against the jersey shore.
Teal, pink, yellow- make me happy. Brown- makes me mad. Black- Sexy
When I am fresh out the shower. When I feel clean, I feel my best.
There aren’t too many places that I can go that don’t constantly have stress or pressure, but my room is where I mostly go to escape the stress in my life. My room is a place where work gets done when it needs to be, but it is also a place where I can relax at any time. My room is a place of happiness where everything around me brings me joy. My wall is covered with my accomplishments and also my favorite sports players and teams that I have always looked up too. My room is just a place of peace and relaxation and I know that when i'm there nothing bad can possibly happen because all vibes are happy ones.
ReplyDeleteMy best childhood memory is going to Florida to visit my uncle every year when he used to live there. I go back and think of these times a lot and how much fun my family and I used to have. This was when everyone in my family got along, money wasn’t really an issue, and my parents were together. Everything about these times brought me complete happiness and the memories will never be forgotten. But I do know that things change and I have accepted that it’s a part of life. I wish we could take trips like that and be one happy family again, but things just weren’t meant to be I guess, nothing I can do about it I just have to accept it and move on.
I feel my best when I’m around my friends and family too for many reasons. I know my family loves me and they are always fun to be around no matter what the time is. Friends I know will always be there too and they are also fun to be around. But around these people I can be myself and hold nothing back. It feels great when you can sit down and talk to people that can understand, listen, relate, and talk about anything at any time. There’s nothing but happiness brought to me from my friends and family so that’s why I feel the best, and there isn’t really ever any pressure so that’s good to.
There are a couple sounds that go on in my life that I find soothing. One is the shuffling of cards, I just really like that sound and how smooth it is if you shuffle good like me. When you shoot a basketball and hit nothing but net, that has a really nice sound to it. I always loved the popping sound the mitt makes when you throw a baseball into it too. Music can be very soothing at times too depending on what you’re listening to. Lastly, there is nothing better than when someone sings and they have such a beautiful voice. Especially, when you get goosebumps from it, you know that it’s really good and soothing.
To be honest, colors don’t really play that big of a part in controlling my mood. Like I don’t have a trigger to any colors that would make me feel a certain type of way. But, when something is very colorful and looks nice it definitely brings me happiness. Colors can only make me feel happy they don’t bring me any other type of emotions.
The time of day that really makes me at ease is probably at night. At night, all the vibes are calm and relaxing because it’s dark and I’ll just be doing whatever and usually what I’ll be doing is something fun or relaxing. Also, the night doesn’t have any pressure or any stress for me, so it really is calming. School is so stressful and I just can’t wait everyday to go home because school really gets me stressed out. There are only a few places during the day that I can feel at ease. School has constant pressure that usually makes me feel uneasy and nervous all the time. At home I never feel that and that is why being in my house at night is very calming and relaxing.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
I like to go to sleep, if that counts. Sleeping is the most calming thing in the world, to me at least. I like to think that I handle pressure fairly well, I’m the type of person who shows zero emotion and is “always” okay. I do this so I show no sign of weakness or feel as if I am weak. But after a while “not being weak” starts to build up and I break into a million pieces. When this happens I’m usually so infuriated with everyone and everything I don’t know what to do because all I want to do is punch a wall and break something. I have to just be mad for a while and let it all drain out of me. Then I like to go to sleep. No matter what, if I’m angry, upset, or down about anything, I can go to sleep that way but I cannot wake up that way. I will wake up feeling more relaxed, sleeping makes everything better. When you’re sleeping you escape from everyone and everything.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
I truly don’t have a best childhood memory. I have more traumatic childhood memories than good. I guess any “best” childhood memory would be any memory I have where everyone around me was happy and content. Any memory where I could tell everyone around me was smiling for real.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
Anytime I’m on a stage performing is when I feel my absolute best. I’ve been performing since I was in fourth grade and even if there’s no one in the audience and I’m all by myself, I still that rush when I walk onto a stage. Almost like a sense of purpose or something like that. I love performing and I hate it at the same time. When I’m performing I feel my absolute best because I know that that is the time to show off by best. When I’m on stage I feel like a light in a dark room, that it’s my time to show what I can do.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The most soothing sound I can imagine is a chord resolution. I love the sound of dissonance and how “bad” it sounds. But it’s so much more than satisfying when you hear that one person or small group of people resolve the chord. It’s something you’re waiting to hear and you know it’s coming you just don’t know when.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Yellow and light green affect my mood the most because, to me, they are the “happiest” colors. I love bright colors because I’m a very bubbly person. When my Mom asked why I wanted to paint my room yellow and green I told her because yellow and green are happy colors. They remind me of summer, the sun and the bright green grass. They are positive colors and I always try to find the “yellow and light green” in everyone and everything. Yellow and light green make me a happier person.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
Around 3pm is when I feel most at ease. First, I’m usually walking in the door at 3pm, getting home from school. I usually just drop my stuff and just lay down knowing my day is over and I don’t have to do anything else. I can just sleep for the rest of the day, I’m usually exhausted anyway. Second, during the summer 3pm is usually when I wake up and that’s the only time of year I don’t wake up and still feel the need to go back to sleep. It’s just that time of day that I feel like I never have anything to do and just relax, which is why it provides the most comfort.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDelete-I like to go to my bed. 75% of the time I will fall asleep but there are times where I like to make my room slightly dark and stare at the ceiling while Ed Sheeran is softly playing. My room is my safe haven and I’m thankful that my parents don’t have any policies on closed doors like some of my friends. I feel alone, in a good way, like no one is judging me and I can do whatever I need/please.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
-Surprising my grandmother in Disney. My grandmother refused to fly so my uncle drove the camper down to Disney’s camping resort with her and my cousin. She was disappointed that I couldn’t come down with her but the whole time my uncle and moms were planning a visit for her and I. I’ll never forget her face when I surprised her at the pool and she started to cry in public for the first time in years. She always loved us grandkids and loved when we were together with her.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
-Wherever my mom is. My mom is my #1 supporter and always gasses me up way more than she should. She always makes sure that I’m happy because she doesn’t like seeing me sad so she does everything in her power to make feel on top of the world. Although she is my toughest critic and can get on my nerves quite easily, I can always count on her to make me feel like I’m doing something right in this world.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
-The sound of the waves crashing in Hawaii. Especially in the morning, when no one is up and the waves have been touched only by the morning surfers. Hawaii itself sounds soothing so that combined with soft waves not in New Jersey sounds heavenly.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
-Yellow makes me happy because it brings back the memories of my grandmother’s favorite yellow shirt with a bedazzled sun (yup, she really owned that). Red makes me nervous because of the boy who made me question my heat however when I see a Red Jay, I think of my grandmother because of an inside joke. And lastly, lavender makes me feel calm because of the memories of my mom giving me a stuffed animal filled with lavender that helped me fall asleep.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
-Any time that I am asleep. Really doesn’t matter the type of day, as long as I’m on a surface that’s not hard and have a cozy blanket, I’m on Cloud 9. I love to sleep, it’s one of my favorite things in the whole wide world and I appreciate it a lot however, I don’t get a lot of it because of school. So when I do get to sleep, I don’t feel stressed out or worried, I always am at peace when I fall asleep.
Where do I go to escape the pressures of life?
ReplyDeleteWell, I do one of two things: one would be binge watching youtube, I love to watch what people have in store for it whether it be a cute puppy, music, gaming, heartbreaking and/or heartwarming, or a simple funny video. Anyone of those always helps alleviate pressure from life, because I just simply enjoy watching them. Second is my PS4, ever since I got my PS3 in 2009 I’ve never stopped gaming. Video games have never ever failed to entertain me ever, I love it to death, and now that I have a PS4 with friends who play with me. It's only a matter of time when I’m starting to do all nighters.
My best childhood memory is when I started to ride a bike on my own in Kennedy Park when I was 6. I felt elated, awe, and a small sense of independence when I did it before, I fell on the ground instantly getting scrapes and bruises small and large. But it finally paid off.
I feel at my absolute best is when I’m relaxing doing the two things I love doing to escape pressure, and/or doing math when I actually know the math.
The most soothing sound I can think of is the strumming of a guitar because one day I would really love to start playing music on it.
The only color that effects me is the sky’s color. I’ve always love to see the clear blue sky, even if it's about 80 degrees and while I'm playing golf. Then when the sun sets it only gets better, and when it's at night I can sometimes see the stars which are always cool to see. However when it's raining and gray out my mood does a full 180.
The afternoon is when I feel most at ease. I’m a real sucker at bright sunshiny days. It the simple radiance of the sun and (hopefully)blue sky that puts me at ease.
Q1: Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life?
ReplyDeleteA1: Sleep. It sounds a bit anticlimactic, but when you sleep, you can get the best ideas from your dreams and maybe even your nightmares. Because so much might be on your mind when you sleep. I know a lot is on my mind when I'm about to go to sleep and I'm not the type of person to just forgot something so suddenly if it means a lot to me, so when I wake up, it's still gonna be there and I'm still gonna be thinking about it, but sleep is my temporary getaway. Where I can paint out in my mind the situation at hand.
Q2: What is your best childhood memory?
A2: A family reunion where both my mom and dad’s side of the family joined together and we had a BBQ. Back when hints were simpler for me to not understand.
Q3: Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
A3: I’d say in school when I'm playing in gym. If you pick the right classes and hang out with with your friends in those classes, gym is literally the definition of a goopy time in high school. Especially when you play volleyball, or handball, or floor hockey, it's truly fun because everyone gets so competitive.
Q4: What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
A4: An orchestra in a blank background just playing peaceful, classical music. Artists like Mozart are the reason I stay calm and collected. If I'm really stressed out, classical music like his soothe me.
Q5: Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
A5: Black is one color that is associated with a lot of things now and days. And it's interpreted and misinterpreted by a lot of people every day. And that is something that will probably never change in this country.
Q6: When during the day do you feel most at ease? Why? What is it about the time of day that provides comfort?
A6: After school when I get home which depending on what I'm doing that day, can range from as early as 2:45 to as late as 6:00 or maybe even even on special occasions 8:00. And plus I walk home from Oakcrest, so when I do get home from a long day, I usually just crash on my couch and take a nice long nap.
For the longest time video games have been my go-to getaway from the burdens of life. They combine a the greatest aspects of books and tv shows as well as connecting the player to the world. While a book may bring me through an adventure in the roots of my mind, video games take creativity and project that out onto a screen for all to enjoy. It’s as if you were to let others see what you are when reading a novel so that they too may experience what you have. The best part of it all is that you actually can interact with the game on a physical level. This doesn’t limit your thoughts to only your head as now instead of imagining what it’s like to say..fight in world war two you can partake in an experience which will put you as close as it can to fighting in the war without actually fighting in a war. What games lack in the way of describing certain sense such as taste or smell they (usually) make up for with visual clues that can poke at a memory from your brain of a particular sense. Video games are able to separate oneself from reality in a way many other forms f entertainment can’t.
ReplyDeleteMy best childhood memory would be of my dog Kiki. With how young I was it’s always hard to remember all of the fun moments with her but she was the most certainly the most important thing to me when I was younger. She was the family dog but everyone knew that I was the closest to her. From the time she was small enough to fit in my dad’s sweatshirt pocket to when her black hair started to turn gray with age she was bursting with life. Unfortunately she had dealt with a nasty ear infection since she was little so we had to put her down a right before she could finish out the rest of her life. The only reason she was able to continue living on was the fact that she loved my family and I so much. She changed my life forever and I probably wouldn’t be the same without her in my childhood.
Anytime I’m around a pet or animal I usually feel my best. I don’t know exactly what it is about other animals that make them feel so much more appealing than people but they just are. I guess it could be that other animals don’t really do the negative things we do such as judge but there’s more to it that I can’t place my finger on. I love to see new and different creatures but I also love to just be around someone’s dog or cat. If I could always have an animal at my side I would be much happier.
A cat’s purr is a pretty soothing sound compared to most other animals. A dog’s bark can get annoying after awhile (or even a little bit) but a purr is very comforting. The sound combined with the knowledge of the cat being happy makes it even more enjoyable. Again, other animals such as lizard don’t really make many sounds that aren’t supposed to scare off predators or alert others causing them to be loud and obnoxious. A purr is just a sign of joy and so it’s pretty logical for it to be soothing.
Red is my favorite color and it so I believe it has a bigger impact on me than most other colors. All colors can affect the mind in some fashion but the color red is different for me, especially when paired with black and white. It just looks much more aesthetically appeasing than most other colors and is very easy to spot compared to the others. It stands out in a crowd and is related to things such as love and fire. Red seems to differ from the other participants of the rainbow in a way that lets it rise above the ranks. Give it the supporting cast of black and white to let it shine even more.
The best time of day for me (ironically) is very late into the night. When I’m not really tired the late night creates an atmosphere completely different to when the sun is shining. Things start to slow down, everything becomes quieter, and time starts to slip away. Night life is a much calmer life with most people asleep allowing you to be by yourself. I think that because of my introverted ways I prefer a time when I’m less likely to encounter others.
When taking a look at the life I have lived so far, I have experienced many painful and emotionally devastating events. But in my perspective there is always a way to see the light and crawl out of the dark hole that I've gotten myself trapped in. There are many happy places and things I can think about to provide the ladder to climb out of that pit of despair. My happy place that I always think about in the rather emotional times in my life are the best memories I've had with my family. I always think about the countless vacation adventures we endured together and how much fun they were. But most of all I think about the love they have countlessly embraced me with over these past 17 years. These moments will never cede to put a smile on my face.
ReplyDeleteThe moments I have spent with my family are also the best childhood memories I have ever had. The countless hours my Dad put in to teach me the sport I love and know today will always stay close to me. All of the effort my Mom put into helping me with school work when I was younger and volunteering hours upon hours to spend time with me will always be the best memories I had when I was younger.
The times in when I feel the absolute best is when Im out on the field playing the sport I love. Just knowing all of the work I put in and being able to execute it makes me feel amazing. The second family I have also is on that field. We work together to execute a goal and when we do succeed it's just the best feeling in the world. Whether it's the ball hitting the bat or the swing and miss of the batter I'm pitching against it is a great feeling.
The most soothing sound that I can think of is the sound when you leave your window open during the summer and accidentally wake up at 5 in the morning. You can hear the frogs, the birds, and the bugs all making noise. It's like a song that many species are singing at the same time. Sometimes I don't get mad when I wake up that early in the summer because it is a joy to listen to.
The colors that affect my mood the most are black and blue. When I think of black it just gets me tangled in a dark place. Just like the hole I mentioned earlier. I don't like to think about it but when I do it sucks. I like to think about blue because it's Oak's colors and it reminds me of the baseball team which I really enjoy to be apart of.
The time of day I feel the most relieved is right after I get home from school. It gives me a sense of happiness and a free feeling. I get to relax and eat so thats always good plus I get to see my dog. That time of day always makes me the happiest out of anything.
I keep a list of things I want to look into on my phone that I’m constantly updating whenever an idea occurs to me. So whenever I need a break, I turn to the internet to look up whatever I feel like from the list on my computer. I love to do research and peruse through articles or blogs, even if it’s tedious sometimes. But if I get tired of doing that, then I like to play/sleep with my cat, read a book, or watch tv shows. Taking the time to be in the moment, like with my cat, slows down my day and makes life more enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteMy dad and I aren’t very close and I’m not fond of other people watching me play an instrument at home. So, one day when I was practicing the guitar, my dad caught me off guard when he opened the door to my room and I quickly stopped and tried to put it away. But, he surprised me when he grabbed the guitar and told me he used to play guitar when he was in Vietnam and that he hasn’t picked one up in decades. I was shocked when he started to play because he could remember how to play a song from when he was young. It might not seem significant, but learning new things about my dad is rare, especially because my parents don’t talk about what they like or about their past that often.
The last thing that I *have* to do every day is brush my teeth. I might not feel like a winner when I’m done after staying up late to finish homework, but it makes me feel clean and it means I don’t have to do anything else in the day. I might want to stay on my computer, phone, or book a little longer, but I know that I can sleep whenever I want to and not have anything else to worry about because I finished everything that I needed to before I brushed my teeth.
I love it whenever my cat is sitting on my lap or near me and purrs. The vibrations combined with the sound keep me calm.
Even though it’s my favorite color, having too much pink in one place makes me feel annoyed. Maybe it’s because pink is usually associated with girls and having everything pink conveys a girly girl vibe, which I don’t like. But, you can never have too much blue. Every other color is in the middle.
I love the nighttime. Even though I’m ready to pass out by ten o'clock, if I can stay up past that point, then everything starts to die down and I can focus more. If there’s an assignment due the next day, I’m usually in a group call with my friends to help me stay awake and everything’s more fun than if I had tried to stay up on my own.
When I am feeling overwhelmed with the pressures of my everyday life I usually go to my best friends house. Besides the fact that she is one of my favorite people in the world, her family is always very welcoming. I am always treated like part of the family which is why I consider Nikki’s house my second home.
ReplyDeleteMy best childhood memory would be moving into my new house. I was too young to be upset when my old house burnt down but at 6 I could definitely feel the excitement of moving into a brand new home. I can still remember it being built from the ground up.
I feel my absolute best while I’m playing soccer. Soccer make me feel this way because it is one of the only things that I am confident in. With everything else in life I am very unsure and self conscious. While I’m playing soccer, all of those negative thoughts go away and allow me to be free.
The most soothing sound I can imagine would be the sound of rain falling. This sound has always put me to sleep every since I was a baby. Even now I play the sound of rain in order to fall asleep because silence scares me.
I painted my walls light blue because it makes me feel relaxed. it reminds me of the sky on a beautiful day, and you might call me crazy but I believe it lowers my body temperature. I also love the color black because it forces me to focus.( I would have totally painted my walls black but my mom said it would be irrational.)
My favorite part of the day is laying in bed at night looking up at the stars on my ceiling. At this time I usually sit and just think for about an hour. I think about what I did that day, I think about the people in my life, or some nights I talk on the phone until 3am. This is ME time. No one is rushing me or yelling at me, I can just chill.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life?
The obvious answer to that is my room. My room is my refuge from all troubles and sorrows I may endure each day. It’s basically my own home. In my room I sit down on my chair or lay down on the bed and think in peace. My room is my own territory and bubble which acts as my rejuvenation center. Or I would go outside and lay down on the ground and look up into the deep azure skies full of white puffy clouds. For some reason when I look up into the sky, I reminisce about past memories and figure out my mistakes or future goals and put my thoughts into action. The skies are my analytical memory storage. It helps me get around in life. And if it’s in school, then it’s definitely room 204.
What is your best childhood memory?
My best childhood memory would probably be when I was ten years old coming from Ghana back to US to reunite after 7 years of not seeing my mom. When I was three years old, my mom sent me to Ghana with my aunt to experience my families background. It was really tough for me not being with your mother. The one who brought me into this world is not by my side. Later on I got used to it and thought of my aunt as my mother. On June 2, 2010, it was finally time to come home. Throughout the exhausting journey which probably took about 15 hours, I was finally reunited with my mom. We both embraced each other;full of happiness and joy; to be together once more. In spite of the fact I left a luxurious life behind, I say it is worth it to be with someone whom loved me more.
Where and When do I feel your absolute best?
I feel my absolute best when I'm surrounded with my family or friends. Why? Well it is because I know them really well and they aren't complete strangers. They know my strengths and weaknesses which they use to help me when I need it most. Being around them helps me create ideas from my head and learn from them (mistakes, experiences, etc.)
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
One soothing sound I could probably think of, are the sounds of angels singing. The other is the sound of the gentle breeze blowing through a grassy field. Both are peaceful and could make anyone smile.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Bright colors/ light shades of red, blue, yellow, green, orange makes me happy, alert, energized, and vibrant. Bright colors in my perspective makes the world go round and makes it vivid. While dull colors like shades of gray (gray clouds, cloudy weather), brown, etc. makes me lethargic, sleepy, bored, and dull in the inside. Those colors have nothing in them that can make me say "wow" or put me in an awe and wonder state.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
In the afternoon, like 1 or 2 I definitely feel the most at ease because it sort of the climax of the day. It's when everyone is alert neither sleepy nor lazy. It is when everyone is at their peak and ready to go anywhere. The sun is up, everyone is up, it is as bright as broad daylight, and I personally think the afternoon is the fun hour of the day.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life?
ReplyDeleteAll the pressure I have in life, I put on myself, the standards I work towards are the standards I set for myself. I cause my own pressures, so when life gets a little overwhelming, I take time for myself. I escape my pressures by being by myself. Being alone allows me to think on my own, without distractions. It allows me to clear my head, and be my own person. It allows me to think about what is good for me, as an individual.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
I swear I had an undiagnosed concussion or something because I seriously can’t remember a thing. But the memories I do have from when I was younger, I will treasure, and hopefully remember forever. One of my earliest memories was before my Mommom died; I was in Kindergarten. My brothers and I had slept over our grandparent’s house. My Poppop went out golfing or running errands in the morning and on his way home he had called and asked what the three of us wanted for breakfast from McDonalds. My answer was pancakes, of course. The phone was hung up and some sort of miscommunication had to have happened because my mommom began making me pancakes, the real MVP. However, as soon as she was finished flipping the last pancake my poppop arrived home, two breakfast sandwiches for my brothers and a thing of hotcakes for me. The small argument that arises after that realization was one for the books.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
On the field, on any field, in any game. I feel my best playing sports. Some people are just naturally athletic, and not to brag or show off or whatever this would be, I am one of those people. Sports are constantly running through my blood. Before my mom was even born she new she was signing me up for gymnastics thanks to my constant flips and somersaults performed in her stomach. I loved constantly chasing my older brothers around, and jumping, and playing games, and just being competitive. I’ve heard stories where I would climb to great heights as toddler and would balance on my toes, on one foot. I was daring. I was competitive. I still am. Being on a field, being competitive, and being daring are all natural traits about me. That’s what I belong to do, and the field is where I belong to do it. The field is where i feel my absolute best.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
Field hockey is obviously the most soothing thing for me, so it’s obvious that the sound of a stick hitting a ball would be, in my opinion, the most soothing sound I can imagine. But there's sorta a condition to my opinion. I love the sound, but it is so much better when recorded. A quick video of a ball being driven into the cage is the most ear-pleasing sound a field hockey can hear.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Colors don’t affect my mood. I love the days where the sun is extra bright, the sky extra blue, and the grass extra green. The brightness of a beautiful day makes me extremely happy, but then again, so does the darkness of a storm. I love seeing a dark grey sky when you wouldn’t expect it. Colors don’t really affect my mood, or at least I don’t let them. Yes of course I have a preference of colors, but my preference is not mood altering.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
To me, the moment when I first wake up, before I actually get out of bed or check the time, the moment when I’m still half asleep is when I’m most at ease. In that moment I have a brand new day, in that moment I have no obligations. In that moment I have no stress. It’s a moment of tranquility that sets the pace for the rest of day.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteIdeally when I need to escape the pressures from my life, I would like to go somewhere far from home, so I like going on vacations or trips to places such as the beach or New York City. Being away from the area allows me to physically escape reality and forget about the area where most of the conscious pressures of my life are evident and instead relax and enjoy the different settings I love. Regularly, however, I listen to music, go on YouTube, sleep, or watch TV to distract myself.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
I have so many great childhood memories, and it is hard to pick only one! I will anyways.
I remember when my entire family made a surprise visit to Etimbuk’s family in June 2009 (we're close). We lived in Virginia at the time, and we returned to visit New Jersey. My family stayed at a hotel room at Flagship Atlantic City for four days, and I had packed everything I wanted in my suitcase, including my swimsuit since my family planned to go to the beach the day after. The day we arrived at the hotel after we checked in, we went to their house to hang out with them (they were very happy) and all the kids were fooling around with TV, radio, and video games while we heard excessive laughter from our parents. Before we left their house to go back to the hotel, my siblings asked if they all could come to the beach with us. Luckily, they were free, so we planned everything they would take the next day (buckets, coolers, etc.) and we were so excited. The next day, we came to their house in the morning around 8-9am, and we spent the entire day at Cape May. Afterwards, we all got ice cream and went back.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I feel my absolute best when I am dressed up in fancy attire to go to a formal event, such as how I went to my aunt’s wedding in 2014. I feel great when I do so because it is the one opportunity I take to look my absolute best in whatever way I want since I do not normally get the chance to wear these items or go to these awesome events. Normally, however, I obviously do not do this, so I feel my best when I come home from school. School is long and stressful with constant yelling, noise, cursing, boatloads of work, etc., so it is nice to return home in my room and relax knowing that it is over for a few hours. I also feel my best when I am not sleep-deprived, when I talk with my friends, or when I accomplish something. When I talk to my friends, I feel included, supported, and confident, and when I accomplish something, I feel proud of myself for completing whatever I worked for. I believe not lacking sleep speaks for itself (lol).
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The most soothing sound to me is the sound of quieter running air conditioning in a room. That may sound kind of weird, but air conditioning makes me feel comfortable when I am hot, and the sound just soothes me for some reason. The same goes for heating in the winter. I also find the sound of large waterfalls, acoustic guitars (depending on the song), and silence (not awkward silence) soothing.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
The color blue assuages me. When I think of the color blue, I feel peaceful and relaxed, and I tend to shut out stress at that point. Light green makes me feel the same way, but it also makes me feel secure, stable, and glad. Turquoise is the color I find that combines the moods of both colors. Yellow makes me feel warm, welcome, and happier, but yellow irritates me when it is too bright and excessively overused (like everything yellow in a room). Too much pick irritates me as well, and black feels heavy and uneasy to me.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
DeleteI feel most at ease before I go to bed. At that point, I have completed all the tasks for the day, so I lay comfortably on my bed listening to music with my phone, and I completely relax knowing that the entire day is over.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteI like to head over to my bed and pull out the music app in my phone. Doing this really helps me get away from everything that's going on at the moment and just make them disappear. Music can change my mood from good to bad in an instant and the bed gives me comfort to any emotions i might be feeling at the time.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
There probably a better memory from when I was a child i just don't remember but I think it was when I woke up at home all alone and went searching for my parents with my dogs. This might seem weird but with my 6 dogs by my side I just felt like the man. In complete control. But when we couldn't find my parents we went home and played together which made me feel like a fun man. So that was the best childhood memory.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
On any court, field, room when I'm around scrubs because I know no one in the room can guard me! #BESTCOMBOGUARDINTHENATION
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The sound of a hyped crowd while their team is winning. I've been in that environment so much that it just makes me happy hearing it because it the best feeling and sound ever.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Green and blue. Green because all I see is money and I'm heading for my goal and blue to remind myself to stay humble and cool.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
When I just get home from school and ate dinner then I hit the bed. Because the food makes me feel satisfied and the bed just fits every where my body needs it to be just the best of both worlds. I feel like I'm being hugged by the world.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteWhen life becomes too much to handle, I like to lay in bed since it’s the most comfiest furniture spot. Once in bed, I reminisce in the memories of my past. The good memories only. Thinking about all the good things that happened to me in the past helps alleviate the pressure by adding happiness to crack the overwhelming pressure.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
As I grow older, I tend to forget some of my past. Which is why I remember my past for my place of happiness before they vanish completely and the pressure of life crushes me. Trying to remember my best childhood memory may be tricky but I do recall one event. In the fourth grade back in Hess, I was assigned the most important mission. Even more important than Neptune Spear. My fourth grade teacher, and the best teacher ever, Mr. Derringer had assigned me with the task of retrieving nourishments and to relay a message to Mrs. Derringer. It was a really big mission that required intense training that would make the Seal team pack their bags and go home. It required intense bravery. It required courage. I was ready for this mission. I headed down the hallway of he** and past the sleeping giant guarding the stairway. Suddenly the giant woke up and reached for me but I jumped the drop of infinite to the end of the stairs and into the ground floor. There, I saw the fun-sucking ADULTS walking around. Using my god-like stealth skills, I got past without raising any alarm and entered the rendezvous point. There I relayed the message of “you are the best wife ever” and other classified material. Then I was given the package and headed back to base facing the dangers once again.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
With friends and/or family having fun because of the increase in happiness. Reason why is because the times come when these moments are seldom.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
Ocean breeze because it would be heard during times of vacation and during vacation, there is always a good time.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Blue, because it is in the sky and in the ocean. Blue symbolizes trust and confidence which are key in living a good life.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
At night. The reason is because we then enter sleep. Sleep is healthy for the body. It is very important as well. All the hardships that occurred during the day is forgotten as we end the day waiting for what life would bring us the next day.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteOne thing I like to do to get away from life for a while is to play video games because video games have been apart of my life for a very long time now. Video games to me just provide the perfect universe that we wish we could do or just experience what we couldn't in our lifetime. Now I know I play video games such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto but it doesn't mean I would like to do that. These are just games to help blow off steam sometimes even it's about killing another individual. The point is that video games can create any type of scenario in life which is why to me it is the perfect way escape the pressure of life
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
My best childhood memory would have to be playing with my sister when we were little. My sister and I were like best friends and would always play with each other no matter what. We would do this thing in particular where we would put on the movie Jurassic Park and pretend we were in the movie with the other actors. I don't why this was the movie we chose also considering that there were times where someone would get eaten by a T-Rex but we love the movie and played along with it. We would even make a little fortress as well which made it even more fun for us.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
Doing the things that I love to do such as playing video games, fighting in martial arts, and even memorizing lyrics from a song but I never had something specific where I felt best at or maybe haven't figured it out yet. When that day comes I will rewrite this blog to you all know.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
When you here an amazing voice from an amazing singer because they can really give you chills just from how amazing they sound. One example would be Freddie Mercury from Queen, his voice was just like no other and could sing almost any note and with the other instruments it almost sounds perfect. So yeah the voice of an amazing singer.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Colors really don't seem to affect my mood really but must of the time I will pick black for everything. Black is one of those colors that match anything and always has been a preference of mine. Black just always looks good especially on clothing but to me it doesn't mean I feel down with blues. I just like the color and that is it.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
It may sound weird for some people but I feel the most at ease in the afternoon during school. I just love being around my friends because most of them I don't really hang out with them too much outside of school. It also tends to be towards the end of school which will get me excited to go home and relax. But most of the time it's because I love talking with my friends.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
My great escape tends to be a secluded from society. Typically a places surrounded by a body of water. For instance, the lake or the beach. The sound of the waves or just the sound of water in general just brings me peace. Even, if its the convince of my home just listening to the tempestuous winds and rain drops of a stormy day makes me feel relax. It puts my mind at ease. I don't contemplate how to solve all the problems in my life.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
My best childhood memory time was when I was around 5 years old. I remember eating piping hot peach oatmeal my favorite. Even, though I was young I never like my food to be cold or even warm I liked to blow off the steam. I was living in North Carolina with my grandma. She turned on tv for me and I watched my favorite show. It was about 6 am and the sun was just peeking over the clouds I could hear the sounds of birds chirping as they flew out of their hide aways. Although, this was a simple time it was a happy time.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I feel my absolute best when I'm around my bestfriend and we're just vibing. We're able to talk about all the things of the universe and give each other feedback. From psychology to aliens we just let our minds wander. This is my best time because, I'm able to speak freely of my thoughts to someone who understands without them judging me.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The most soothing so to me is the sound of a dangerous thunder and lighting storm. The sounds of violent wind put me at ease like no other sound. As, A child I was never scared of things like hard rain so, I began to love it.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it? The one color that effects my mood the most is the color yellow. The color yellow natural brings me joy. The color yellow symbolizes happiness.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
During the day, I get most comfort when I'm just a home laying in the bed after work. It's the relief of dealing with difficult customers all day then, just getting the satisfaction of being able to sleep. I enjoy just being alone and just browsing through my web of thoughts.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteI like to go to my room, especially when my sister isn’t there.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
My best childhood memory is when there was only 6 people in my family and we still lived in Mays Landing. My brother was 6, my first younger sister was about 3 or 4, my youngest sister at the time was between 3-6 months years old, and I was 4. I just remember gathering in the hallway together and messing with the youngest sister. We kept spinning her around as she crawled or we would put her on her back to see if she could roll onto her stomach. We made her go after things that she wanted too.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I go to my room when I have come back from school. My sister isn’t there yet and when she gets there about 20 minutes after me, she usually falls asleep fast, so I can do what I want without having others watch so that makes me feel comfortable.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
I like it when the sound of a TV is going on in the background. I hate being downstairs alone at night, so I would turn on the TV if I had to be alone downstairs.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
There is no specific color that affects my mood, but I like it when colors look good together or when they are used well. I also tend to either like colors in very light shades or very dark shades. I rarely, if ever, like the basic shade of a color.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
I feel the most comfortable between 3 and 5 P.M.. This is usually the time before I go and do homework. I’m just lying down on my bed, using my phone without any thoughts on what I have to do next. I usually get so comfortable that I fall asleep doing this. What is also comfortable about this is that I am not expected to cook until around 5 or 5:30, so my parents leave me alone.
When I need to escape the pressures of life, I go to my room. It's where I can close the door, and close out everything on the other side of it. I can cry into a pillow or hold one. I can lay, spread out on the bed and forget, or curl up and fall asleep pause everything else. It is there that I can feel safe, secure, grounded.
ReplyDeleteMy best childhood memory is one day specifically that I can remember going to Castle Park in EHT with my brother and my dad. My mom worked on weekends, so the weekends were for the boys! I remember, it being sunny, and warm enough for me and Jordan to take off our jackets, but the time of year that we still had to wear one out of the house. We went to the park every weekend; it was our favorite. But every Saturday still brought the same excitement as it did the first time we ever went. I remember sitting on a swing next to my brother, and I think I recall reaching the sky, passing through a cloud, and falling back through it before coming back down and seeing my dad ahead of us laughing almost as hard as us. The whole cloud parts a little fuzzy in my mind, but I'm just about 99% positive that it happened. But sitting there with the first two boys I ever loved, without worrying about how much time I had before bedtime, or thinking about how I wished my mom could've been there too (because Daddymade me swing by myself but Mommy would've pushed me), I was glowing. Before the times of stress of school and the struggles of depression, I was living. The sunlight was pouring onto my face, my superheros were by my side, and I was most definitely swinging higher than one of them. I was on top of my little world. I was with 2/3 of my entire little world. And I knew that when I got home, I'd walk through the doors to be welcomed by the missing piece, and I could not wait. Everything was okay. And anything that wasn't, I knew would be soon. And the idea that something ever wouldn't turn out okay was a concept that I didn't even understand yet.
As sad as this probably sounds, I feel my best when I'm asleep. Because I can't honestly remember the last time I felt genuinely in my prime in a conscious state. When I'm asleep, everything goes away. The worries that play inside my head like a record all day, the words that people have said that are tattooed on the back of my eye lids, the things that I wish I could take back, or close my eyes to not see. Everything goes away. And even when those things occasionally creep back up on me in my dreams, its okay. Because when I wake up in a cold sweat, trying to catch my breath, I can still lay my head back down, and go back to bed.
The most soothing sound I can think of is the sound of secadas and crickets outside my bedroom windows, reminding me that summer is almost here, that stress relief is on its way, and that the sun has fallen, and today is done. On days that aren't summer, the most soothing sound I can think of is the rain. I grew up with friends who believed that storms were God when he was angry; the rain were his tears. Now, when it rains, for some reason, I feel as though the world itself is crying, and like it's a reminder that it's okay to hurt, and that I'm not alone.
The colors that effect me most are shades of orange. I don't know if it's a scientific thing or not, but it always brings me comfort and gives me a sense of serenity. Sunsets, flowers, the walls of my room. They all make me feel a little more stable.
The point in my day when I feel most at ease is whenever I happen to finish my homework, and I can finally put it all away, turn my lights out, put on Netflix, and crawl into bed. The same way that the secadas do, I can finally say that the day is done, the stress is over, and its time to fall into probably a deep, incredibly short sleep where I can finally rest.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteTo escape all of my stress and all the of the pressure that comes with being a teen is my room. When i'm stressed I do the same thing every time. I go into my room, shut off my lights and take a nice nap with my window open. I leave my window open because I love waking up to a light breeze blowing on my shoulder.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
My favorite childhood memory is in 2008 when the phillies went to the world series and won the world series. I can just remember staying up late for the final game with my mom on the couch and waving our rally towels as if we were actually at the game and cheering every time the phillies scored. Then within the next week I actually got to go take a picture with the actual phillies trophy. That whole series of event is by far my favorite childhood memory.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I feel my best when I am playing sports. No matter what the sport I just feel so free. It just makes me forget about everything else and just allows me to be myself and have fun.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The most soothing sound is the ocean, but not when you are right next to it. The ocean is the most soothing when you're across the street from the beach taking a nap on your porch.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
The color blue affects my mood the most. It calms me down and makes me relax.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
At night. I love that feeling knowing that the day is over and that I can just lay back, watch tv and fall asleep. I find a sense of comfort knowing that I am done stressing for the day and that I can look forward to at least 6 hours of sleep and comfort.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I enjoy the internet as a good place to waste time and escape reality. The internet is wonderful because there are things to make me laugh, things I enjoy watching, and things which add a positive spin to my overall outlook for the day.
What is your best childhood memory?
My best childhood memory would probably have to be when I was young and my brother and I would always play this one game together and I finally won against him. (I don't know why I enjoy this memory either).
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
There is no set place where I feel my best and any time, it just happens randomly and is not something I can control. Perhaps it has to do with the activities I do or even what I ate that day, but I do not have a set position where I feel at my best.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The most soothing sound I can imagine would have to be the sound of (not too heavy) rain while sitting in a parked car. The sound of the rain so close and peacefully making noise on the car is very relaxing to me for some reason.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Oddly, colors don't really affect my mood. The only example I could think of where colors would affect my mood would have to be if I was in a horror movie scenario and there were no colors at all. That would probably affect me and scare the daylights out of me.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
Again, the time of day doesn't really change how I'm feeling. I live on a day to day basis and although days may be similar, they are not the same. With different days bringing different experiences, the times does not dictate my feelings (besides feeling tired if I stay up too much).
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteThere’s this place in my head that I go to whether I’m daydreaming or actually dreaming when I listen to music. It sounds weird but I pretend that I’m on stage performing or I’m with a certain person/people. It’s basically dreaming that you’re in a music video. Listening to music is always an escape for me and there’s a song for every emotion/situation. I normally have one playlist that consists of my favorite songs of the moment that I always turn to that always makes me feel at ease. No matter where I am I can count on music to bring me to my happy place.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
My best childhood memory consists of two different days. First is the day I found out I was going to have a little sister (I was 6). And the second time is the day I learned my mom was pregnant again with another little girl (I was 7). Before that I would go to the Cherry Hill mall with my mom and Lola and ask every time to make a wish in the fountain. My mom let me go into her wallet and grab a penny and I had the same wish: to have a little sister. My mom said that I would always accidentally drop two pennies in the fountain which is why I got two sisters. This is my best memory because there was nothing more that I wanted in life than that and I was over the moon to get two.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I feel my best when I’m onstage performing. More specifically when my friends are around me or when they are watching me. I feel like I push myself to be my best when my closest friends are near because I want to make them proud and their support motivates me. Also it’s more fun when people you care about are with you when you are doing the thing that you are most passionate about.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
A piano playing any slow song. Pianos sound so beautiful and in my opinion are better than violins and guitars. I could without a doubt fall asleep and relax to this sound.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
The color purple affects my mood the most. It reminds me of my childhood because it was also my aunt’s favorite color. Purple makes me happy and calm like I’m in my comfort zone. It also reminds me of love, but not in the way that red does. Purple makes me feel more creative and that I can use my imagination to do whatever I dream.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
I feel most at ease between 11pm and 1am. My mind opens up at night and I love thinking by myself and writing in a journal about my day. I enjoy reflecting on anything and everything late at night. I love having those deep and sometimes weird conversations at night. It’s comfortable because everything is more peaceful and not hectic like the daytime. The night feels like it goes by slower and I have more time to get things done. I usually get a burst of energy at nights and all my best ideas come late at night.
Most people have an escape place, but I have an escape item. This may be what you would call cliche, but I have a teddy bear. I have had this teddy bear since the day I was born. Something about it makes me feel good, and protected. I have frequent anxiety attacks where I would just cry, usually for no reason. So when I do, I go to my teddy bear and I hold it. I hold it and I talk to it. It may be considered weird, but I honestly don’t care because it makes me feel comfort.
ReplyDeleteMy best childhood memory was when I met my cousin. I wasn’t really a child, I was more of a pre-teen, but it’s is still one of the best moments of my life. I met him the summer going into my 8th grade year when my TiTi was about to pass away. But I honestly will never forget this day. My family and I got invited to his house where I met a couple new aunts and a bunch of cousins. But my cousin, Isaiah, was the only one my age. At first things were really awkward because we had no idea how to interact with each other. Then finally he asked to verse me in Just Dance on the Wii. Of course I won. Then from there we all went outside on his trampoline and were out there for hours. Once going back inside we just began talking about everything. I literally told him all about the past 12 years of my life, and he told me all about his. From there we became best friends, and 4 years later, we still are. I am so grateful for him, and how much he is there for me when I need him to be.
I always feel my absolute best when I know I look nice. Something about my appearance puts me in a better mood. When I feel clean, and nicely put together I’m just happier in general. I don’t purposely look good for other people to see me, I do it for myself. I like knowing to myself that I have a nice outfit on that brings out feature(s) of mine, even if nobody else is around to see me.
The most soothing sound that I could think of is the sound of birds. Because I live in the woods, I have the luxury of hearing birds out my window just about every morning. It like they are having conversations with each other and it is the most fascinating and relaxing sound to me.
I’ve always had a thing for blues, but always different shades of blue. The lighter the blue, the more I feel at ease. The darker the blue, the more I feel worried. My favorite color is teal blue. Which is right in between light and dark. Teal blue makes me be comfort and happy.
I always feel the most comfortable at night when I’m relaxed. Right before I go to bed I like to think. I’m not one of those people that stay up on their phones until they fall asleep. I take it upon myself to put my phone down and lay in bed and just think. In my head I would go over my day, what I’ve accomplished, who I talked to, and rate my day on a scale from 1-10. I like it so much because it’s me time. It’s the only time that I usually feel like I’m by myself, worrying about myself, in my own thoughts. My thoughts are one thing that nobody else can hear, and I kind of like that.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteThe buddhist in me would love to claim that I escape from life and enter Nirvana but that would be a blatant lie. The actual me escapes the pressures of life through YouTube. Yes I love viewing other people’s amazing lives and their ventures into the distant world while I sit and sulk about how I’m stuck in Mays Landing. Yes this statement is pessimistic a best but it’s true. When I’m on YouTube and looking at the lives of others I get a feeling of envy. One day I’m gonna leave this crappy place and go explore the world. First I’m going to Korea and getting some tteokbeokki (otherwise known as Korean spicy rice cakes).
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
Video games are an important getaway for almost all males and females in this first world country. When I was 4 I got my very first video game and that was Pokemon Leaf Green on Game Boy Advance SP (I also managed to incorporate Pokemon in this blog). It was my first experience with entertainment outside of Dora and Diego. I was thrilled. I remember my first Pokemon was not Charizard but rather the underdog of the Kanto starters also known as Bulbasaur. Then I grew and made new friends and traded Pokemon. In the end, my team consisted of a Venusaur, a Gengar, a Moltres, a Lapras, a Dragonite and an Aerodactyl.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I love Asia. I’ve probably talked about Asia in every single one of my blog posts. This blog is no exception. I love the cuisine and the traditions and above all the arts. Yes I love K-Pop because it’s the root of all my happiness all of my musical inspirations and yes I love pho because who doesn’t love it.This summer I’m aiming to go back to Asia and experience all the things I couldn’t the first few rounds. When July comes around hopefully I’ll be out of America and back to the place where I feel I belong.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
DeleteOh god do I love vocal pedagogy. Vocal pedagogy is the study of how the voice works and the muscles and how you’re supposed to sing. I’ve come to love the sound of some notes over others at this point. My favorite sound has got to be a resonant D6-Eb6 trill from Kim Sohyang in her Fate performance. Although it’s not a belted note it’s supported and has resonance. This was also a note in head voice because there’s a difference between head voice and falsetto and if you can’t use head voice, don’t go for the note. It’s just so well executed that I can’t help but smile. A close second goes to Beyonce’s F#5 in her national anthem performance because who doesn’t love a good belt from the best vocalist in America.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
Usually when people ask what’s your favorite color I’ll go directly to the colors of the rainbow and be generic. Metallics are my favorite colors and every time I say blue is my favorite color I feel as if I’m betraying part of myself (although purple still holds a place in my heart). The metallic colors are usually associated with some value, be it the olympic medals or the colors of jewelry. When I see these colors I’m usually either happy and feeling successful or envious. Among these colors I have to say silver or platinum are my favorites. Platinum is the ultimate medal. It may not be an olympic medal but it is the most valuable medal. It has the qualities of a silver but a little more darkness to its. It has an allure to it. Silver is the color of second place but it’s first place in my heart. Silver is like platinum but much lighter and brighter and it some silvers shimmer in the sun. The way the sun’s rays reflect off of silver is magnificent and I love it.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
I like to go to sleep late at night. Although I’m tired and all, it’s just a time for me to have some time for myself without the noise and the discomfort that comes from people. Usually around this time I watch videos or I scroll through Twitter. A lot of the people that I follow on Twitter are on other sides of the globe. Some are from Switzerland and others are from China. The time I’m getting ready to sleep is the time that they’re getting up so it’s nice to see their early morning thoughts.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place).
ReplyDeleteFor me, I like to go to my own room where I have the most comforting thing with me, my bed. If I was having an exhausting or stressful day, I would just plop myself down onto my bed and take a nice nap, which can range from two hours to six hours. It is also the place where my parents bother me the least at so I am able to go onto my computer without having to worry as much for my parents to start yelling at me. If it was not for my room or if I was ever banned from going into my room- which happens rarely- I would say that the bathroom would be a backup. In my bathroom, I just sit down on a chair and just play on my phone all day. Both places allow me to ignore what is happening around the house.
What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.
I did not really have an exciting or thrillful childhood, rather it was mostly filled with finishing one of those math practice books that you would get either at five-below or online or reading the math textbook. But one of the best things that happened in my childhood was whenever I had piano lessons at the now-closed music store, Music Central. My piano teacher, Ms. Dottie, would allow me the freedom of picking whatever song I wanted to do and she also introduced me to other great songs. I was not being forced to do one hundred math problems, but instead, I was allowed to do what I enjoyed most, playing the piano. Before I was privately taught, I thought that the instructor was going to be extremely strict and hit me for every mistake, but after a couple of months, I soon started to open up and like the influential teacher. She was adept at handling kids and she always made me happy. Getting to go to piano lessons was one of the highlights from my childhood.
Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?
I feel the absolute best whenever I am on a bed, any kind of bed would suffice but I am most comfortable with my own. Being able to lie down and snuggle into my blankets allows me to finally relax. If I am not tired, I would just use my laptop or phone while lying down on my bed. The only time that I would have to get out of it would be whenever I am hungry or I have the need to go to the bathroom. Being on my bed is basically the only time I have to relax since I do not know any other way for me to relax.
What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?
The most soothing sound I can imagine is the sound of fire burning wood or anything. I enjoy listening to the fire crackle as it slowly burns whatever is in it. Usually, in the summer, my parents would set up the furnace and allow me to throw papers (usually bills and other confidential information that requires shredding) from this giant box into the fire. I enjoy throwing the papers in one-by-one, usually making origami out of them, and watching the paper slowly disintegrate while listening to the fire burning fiercely.
Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?
I do not really see how colors affect my mood but I guess I can see why the color blue can affect my mood a little. Whenever I look at the color blue, I feel a little bit calm and a little bit tired. I associate the color blue with the ocean and I see the ocean as a place where people can relax at so I guess that is where these feelings originated from.
When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
At night I feel the most at ease. The reason being is because, at night, I can either stay up late playing games or go to sleep, which is both relaxing for me to do. I like walking outside during the night and I feel like everything can be seen from a different view at night. Just staring at the stars and at the moon provides me comfort.
To escape from the pressures of my life, I go to music. Listening to music takes my mind away from all the pressures in my life. More specifically songs that I can sing aloud to. This kind of brings me to a place where nothing can touch me and there's nothing going on. I put my earphones in and suddenly I'm immersed into a world of just happiness or sadness and just straight singing.
ReplyDeleteMy best childhood memory is going on a cruise with my friends in my neighborhood. Specifically the time we ran around the cruise on the last day. It was the last day so we stayed up all night just going to the places we've never been and the places that we would miss the most: the basketball courts, the library, the lounge, the buffet, etc. Also, it was the day that I got the cojones to ask this chick for her number. Sure it was just some random girl who I will probably never talk to, it was just nice knowing that I had the balls to do that. It was a bittersweet memory but it's my favorite cause I liked the time reminiscing all the memories on the boat.
I feel my absolute best on the track. It's pretty funny because I'm far from the best on the track, but I just love the feeling. I love the feel of the air on my face as I sprint down the track, I love the feeling of jumping over a hurdle, I just feel my absolute best on the track.
The most soothing sound I can imagine, is a piano playing. Not any random piano playing though, that would be creepy trying to listen to that when I'm about to sleep. I mean piano playing when I KNOW who's playing it (wink wink), the piano playing that also has talking behind it, so I know it's not some ghost playing the piano.
No colors affect my mood really. I could think in any color, I can be happy in any color, and I can be sad in any color. Looking at a color doesn't affect my mood but I also have never really noticed. I usually look for detail instead of just color.
I feel most at ease at night. The stillness, the quietness, the isolation just brings a sort of peace. I also love looking at stars and seeing them calms me down so I love the night. Just knowing that everyone's asleep and (hopefully) no one is getting hurt, it's a pretty good feeling if you really think about it. It's an easing feeling.
